Hope the St Patrick's Day theme works for everyone. If not, Easter/Spring is just around the corner, and that means !!!

Mostly a LOT of walking - my feet still haven't recovered. I did a lot of random wandering around seeing whatever was to be seen - fortunately, in Rome, there seems to be something worth seeing wherever you end up. I saw a lot of the usual suspects: the Vatican museums and St. Peter's Basilica (where I spotted the Pope cruising by in his popemobile!), the Colosseum, the Imperial fora, the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill, the Pantheon, the Musei Capitolini, the Basilica of St. John Lateran, the Scala Sancta (my knees are still bruised after climbing it), Il Vittoriano, the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, a whole bunch of other piazzas and fountains, not to mention more churches than you could shake your rosary beads at... and er, probably some other stuff also. It's such a fantastic city - I loved it.

I also ate myself silly.

Whoopee! We had snow Sunday and Monday. 6 inches. Hey, that's a LOT for Georgia. I didn't get to squee here because we lost power off and on for hours on Sunday and Monday. We even went to bed at 8 o'clock Sunday night because it was really boring without all the usual electronic entertainment offerings and it was starting to get a little chilly. We have a wood stove and good insulation so it never really got to be a problem, but we all felt very "Little House on the Prairie". It was kind of fun to figure out just why people went to bed with the sun and got up with the sun in days gone by. Tuesday we noticed that we had had so much snow that they had even plowed the country roads around here. I didn't even know our county road department had the capability of plowing. And now it's Thursday and there is still snow in shady spots and where the kids made very messy snowmen (or snowwomen as my daughter insisted hers was.) Too bad it will probably be another 10 years before we get this much snow. Did you get any, Siobhan?

Only in our dreams. The forecast gave us a 70% chance, but it never appeared. We're too close to the coast, I guess, and the systems didn't line up just right. It would have been nice to have a little snow. It doesn't last long here, so the usual headaches caused by winter weather just don't happen. For the most part people here enjoy it as a day off or delayed.

Now, my tai chi instructor went to Boston on Wednesday. He planned to be back Monday morning. He didn't make it back till Tuesday afternoon.

Of course it's a day off! My husband grew up so far back in the country that he used to get days off from school if it rained too much and the creek rose over the bridge. To this day, he adores rainstorms.

Hello!

This isn't Slushy, it's actually Pesky Pixie -- logging in on my daughter's old username to say Hi. I just watched CoS on Disney channel ... It reminded me of the old HP magic that brought everyone here together, and of all the fun we had in the old days!

I'm sorry I left so suddenly without saying goodbye. It was one of those decisions I knew I had to make quickly and cleanly to make it stick. At the time I needed a catalyst to get on with other areas of my life, and letting go of Harry Potter was a symbolic way to start. Life has been busy since then. Slushy is completing her freshman year as an English major at Ohio State, still living at home and attending the branch campus. She would like to teach high school English someday, if luck is with her. I've been working hard doint much needed home improvements -- painting and the like. It's not as exciting as world traveling like Bee (I'm so jealous ... lucky you!), but satisfying nontheless.

I hope everyone here has been well. The world has gone through so many changes in the past few months! I'm so proud of my country and hopeful for all our futures, once we get past the rough times. Ohio has been hit hard by the recession with local unemployment topping 10%. It's very scary to say the least.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and send everyone a big hug! Bye for now ...

Pesky Pixie

Pixie!! It's so good to hear from you. I've missed you, but I'm glad to hear things are going well.

The economy is scary here in California too, especially given our legislature's insane budget battles. I really have no confidence in them to steer the state in a sound fiscal direction.

I'm happy to hear that Slushy is doing well. My son is also in his freshman year. He's at UC Santa Cruz majoring in Economics. He loves it and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that by the time he graduates, the economy will have picked up enough that he can actually find a job.

Don't be a stranger. If nothing else, stop in to discuss the HBP movie when it comes out. Take care, Love Theo

Imdb has the release date as 17 July-- at least for US audiences. It may be different around the world. It would be nice to see some old familiar faces stop in.
