Congrats, Diri. The only thing I can identify in the night sky is Orion.

Cour, that is so hilarious! He must have been a real winner to get banned from your roomy's bedroom. At least he didn't ask you to budge over so you'd have to share.

Orion's the only thing I know too. I thought I knew the big dipper but apparently I was wrong. Anyway, congrats Diri!!

And Jo, we now have a policy against allowing RMC boys in our house next year, unless they pass a thorough screening process. RMC is the Royal Military College, which is on an island about a half hour's walk from my campus. It's about 90% boys so they all go to the bars on their nights off wearing their uniforms hoping to find Queen's girls to take them in so they don't have to walk back to their school in the cold. It's surprising how much the uniform can raise the attractiveness of a boy, especially when slightly drunk. My roommate really didn't stand a chance.

Do you go to the Queens mentioned in Anne of Green Gables? I just love those books.

Oh, the attraction of a man in uniform. But I don't think I'd really like to be involved with a military guy for many reasons.

I don't think so. I think the Queen's that Anne goes to is in the maritimes, which is where I live but not where I go to school. It might have been based on it because Queen's is one of the better known universities in Canada and was around at the time that Anne was written.

heh... do you ever have moments that remind you of people from HPG?? I just had one. My dad is watching a movie and I came downstairs just as one of the characters said "they call me MR. TIBBS".

Has Tibbs even been around recently?

I don't think she has been around lately. I am not even sure whether she ever posted on the new boards.

I'll be at my parents over the weekend. It's really strange to say that you "only" visit your parents and call a place your home that is more than 300 km away from wHere you grew up and where your family lives. I don't really mind it, in fact I am quite happy that I have my own place and that I didn't stay in the town I grew up. But it's still strange...

Hi everyone! I haven't posted here in far, far too long, so I figured I should check in. After spending pretty much all of 2006 in Indiana looking for a job, I gave up on finding anything there, and came back to Kansas. This was just a few days before Christmas. At the start of the new year I sent out some job applications, got an interview out of one of them, and by the end of January I had started a new job, and moved into my own apartment for the first time. So things are mostly going pretty well. I'm in a suburban area just southwest of Kansas City. This Friday I'll have been at my job for two months, and benefits will kick in at the beginning of April. I'll have health/ dental insurance again, some paid vacation time/ sick leave, even a retirement plan. It's like I'm actually a grownup now or something. This is the first job I've had with benefits and that actually paid well enough for me to support myself (though not by a huge margin, stupid college loans, wanting to be paid back ).

I was looking for a job in graphic design, and with the job I ended up in, at a printing company, I'm a graphic artist by title, but I don't actually get to design stuff, I just get customer graphics ready for printing. So it's not exactly what I wanted, but at least it's in my field, and I like it so far. It helps that I like my co-workers. I've hung out with some of them outside work a few times and had fun. Which is good because I haven't met anyone around here outside of work yet. I need to work on that... And sometime in the near future I should be able to get a little freelance design work on the side, which would give me a chance to be creative (and make a little extra money), and build up my portfolio.

So I've been severely absent from HPG in recent months, but I definitely plan to be around here more, especially this summer. When book 7 comes out I have to be here where I first got started in the HP fandom over five years ago!

Welcome back, Sarah.

Hmmm, we're still not very on topic with anything. And there is a great kissing/smacking game going on on the Quidditch Pitch thread.

Welcome back Sarah and congratulations on your new job. I am glad that you like your co-workers. IMHO that's one of the key elemtents of a "perfect" job.

My boss entrusted me with a huge and very important project. I suppose this is a kind of test, as I have been working for this company for a year now and I think they want to see if what kind of projects I can handle. That means, it would really help my carreer if I managed everything, but if I don't ... Well, at the moment I am happy and nervous and excited.

I'm not sure how many of you use Facebook, but I do and on the main page you see when you log in there is something called a "News Feed" that tells you when your friends add pictures, make changes, etc. One of the (more annoying) features is that it tells you when people are in a relationship or have ended a relationship, etc. and presents it as "soandsoa and soandsob are now in a relationship". Anyway, today when I logged on to Facebook, my News Feed told me that "Harry and Voldemort have set their relationship status to Mortal Enemies"

It took me a while to realize it was for April Fools.

it's the same sort of thing as MySpace, but aimed at University and College students. I had a myspace for about a week and was too confused by it. Facebook, on the other hand, is the single greatest reason why my marks have dropped.

Anyway, this is what a News Feed page looks like

this is what a profile looks like (with extras. under my information you can see favourite movies, etc. but it also has contact information so I hid it for privacy reasons)

and this is what a group page looks like (this group is called "I go to Queen's because I didn't get in to Hogwarts")

et voila! Facebook.

I was out of school by the time I started hearing about Facebook everywhere, and I never really got around to trying to trick it into letting me join, since you apparently have to have a college/university email address, and mine's been defunct for well over a year, probably at least a year and a half. I do have a Myspace, though I don't use it *that* much. I've never posted a bulletin or updated my blog since I first joined, anyway. It is kind of cool to see what old classmates from high school and college are up to, though I haven't really gotten back in touch with anybody beyond a couple messages back and forth and friending each other.

Anyone can join Facebook now

I pulled my first all-nighter of the year Wednesday night/Thursday morning to afternoon. It wasn't fun. But I got all my work done and now my classes are over.

Doesn't she normally post a little, then not turn up for a few months? The members list says she was last here on Monday.

Bump!
I have a gastritis. I have been sick (stomach cramps, nausea and other unpleasant symptoms, which I won't explain it detail) for more than 3 weeks. On monday I had to go on a business trip to Austria and I was very ill during the night in the hotel. I still don't know how I managed to survive the meeting with our customer on tuesday.
On wednesday my doctor gave me a new medicine and that finally seems to help. I have been feeling much better yesterday and today. Still, I will have to go to specialist in internal medicine to have a gastroscopy.

Get well, U8. When I was about 17 I began to have gastrointestinal problems. I kept getting stomach cramps and other unmentionable symptoms. Turns out I was lactose intolerant and didn't know it. I have to really watch my dairy intake and can't drink regular milk anymore without severe cramps. I have discovered I can eat certain yogurts, which I'm not a big fan of. Plus, I still eat pizza, ice cream, and other things. I just have to watch myself.

Hugs U8! Hope you're feeling better soon! I get some bad digestive upsets from time to time too. All the tests and scopes have come back negative, so the doctors simply tell me I have Irritable Bowel. I suppose I should be happy that it's nothing worse, but it's still frustrating when it flares up. I do think that my thyroid runs a little fast (but not fast enough to treat) and that contributes to the problem. Anyway, good luck with the scope, and hope you feel better soon!

So I'm working again this summer at the tourist shop by the cruise ship dock (I got a job at a call centre and decided I didn't want to work there and then didn't get calls back from anywhere else and my old job offered me a raise so I took it) annnd I was just looking at the cruise ship schedule on there is a ship on July 21st. Which means I will be working on July 21st. It's not going to be a good day, knowing that the book is out there and that I can't read it until I get off work at 5.

Don't worry, Cour. Take heart because I'll be waiting with you. My mail carrier doesn't come until around 4 or 5pm. I don't know why I just don't go to the local Walmart at midnight, but I hate that place on a normal day, so I just stay away. I'll be waiting impatiently at the mailbox this year as well as every other time the books are released.

They really should deliver the new book via "owl post".

I feel a bit better today, but I guess I really need the gastroscopy. The only problem is, that it is almost impossible to get an appointment before August. :-( I really can't wait that long.

I got one of those done when I was living in Germany - actually it was when I first arrived - it took me a long time to get used to the food there, in the end there was little wrong with me (it cleared up by itself) - it could have been a bacteria that I wasn't used to, or just being unsettled around the stressful time of moving, or just a combination of everything.
Why are the waiting lists so long though? I lived in Bayreuth and I got an appointment a week after my doctor said I needed it. Poor you! Its horrible thinking about something like that and feeling ill and just wanting to feel better.
I hope you feel better soon!

The problem is my health insurance. When you have the right insurance it isn't a problem at all, but with the public health insurance it takes ages to get an appointment. A lot of doctors rightout refused to examine me, because I only have the public health insurance.

I am going on a business trip tomorrow. I'll take GoF with me to read it aboard the train.

Oh I see - in my position there, I had to have health insurance - I worked in a lab, so the chances of sickness were supposedly higher...
Couldn't you just pay for it for a few months - its not very expensive - I think mine was 70euro per month, then go to a different doctor about your problem - I know they have made things a little more difficult there - you need to have a note from one general doctor to get to the specialist - thats the way it was when I was leaving. Its an awful lot of hassle - sorry for you.
I read GoF last week. I "renoticed" when Snape looked in the foeglass - he saw himself... where they discover the fake moody. I got a kick out of that - I had forgotten about it.
Get well soon!!!

I have the basic health insurance from the public insurance system. Theoretically it is possible to get insurance from a private insurance company instead, but your income has to be above a certain limit - and mine isn't. My colleague promised to talk to her sister (who is a doctor) about my problem. Maybe she can arrange something for me.
