Let me know if you need any help. I'm learning all of this too, but I'll do my best to be of assistance.

The FAQ's (the link is at the upper right of the page) are fairly thorough.

OK, I did get one of my Eeyore avatars to work, but the box that pops up says the size has to be 64 by 64, so I resized one of mine, and when it posted it made it bigger and it was all pixel-ish. So I changed to one that is a bigger size, and it's fine. Can that be reworded--it looks like it resizes the avatars for you, which makes it a lot easier when you want to use your own.

We are working on the wording of the instructions. Why they fell into text speak I dont' know. Lazy typers I guess.

The avatar feature is still buggy, but we are working on it.

Changed mod. New avatar feature works much better.

There are about 140 avatars in the system. You can choose one from your profile page (left column about 4th section down). User posted avatars are ones hosted on a blank page with their own address. You place the address in the box that pops up when you click the link to choose an avatar.
If you are still having difficulties, let me know where you are at in the process and I'll see what I can do to walk you through.

Why can't I see any thread topics under Third Floor: Uncontrollable Giggling? I can get to the threads by going under Active Topics, then clicking on a thread, then clicking on Inherently Random. But if I just click on Third Floor, I get nothing.

If I'm understanding this correctly, from the forum page you have clicked on the category "Third Floor" and found only "Inherently Random". That is simply a sub category. To get to the topics click on IR and all the topics will show.
If I had a really good way to put in outline form it might be helpful. Let me work on it (I'm a paper person).

I just looked at my profile and it says I'm 13. I understand that tons of people here tend to choose their ages but, trust me, I would not be 13 years old again for all the money in the world. Anyway... I don't remember putting in any age information, and when I went to change it, I couldn't find out how.

Muchas gracias.

Cour, you can set your birthday on your profile - there's a tiny calendar button on the right side in the middle. Otherwise - you're 13! I was too - but that's over with now.

And I love you, I love you, I love you.

When you get to the calender, be sure to choose your month and year and then click "GO" (to the right of the year box). That will set the calendar for you to choose the day.

When I'm on the main page and click on "Third Floor", it brings me to another page where nothing is listed; all it says is "Third Floor". The only way I can access any "Inherently Random" threads to go to the Active Topics page and that's only if there's an active topic.

*sigh* Never mind.....apparently I needed to "expand" the catagory (the little box right next to the title "Third Floor"

Just a small announcement regarding the site.
Don't Panic
Some of you may have noticed an interruption in the forum's availability. There was a power outage at the office this evening. This is unrelated to any Death Eater activity. Furthermore, Husband will be performing some server maintenance over the weekend. Hopefully this will not trouble us, but anything is possible. If we are down for a while, just check back when you can.
I've left a similar announcement at Diagon Alley http://adriana.proboards19.com/index.cgi

Is this the right thread to ask if I can set up a topic which has a poll question in it? If it is, is it possible to start poll threads or not?

Cheers

We haven't actually got the poll mod working yet. Moody has put about 5 hours into it so far and it hasn't worked properly yet. He may have to start over with a different one. Definitely keep your questions in mind though as we are planning on adding polls.

I noticed this today and thought I'd post the answer here in case others were wondering. The default may be set to hidden mode.

quote:
I seem to be on "hidden" mode, don't know why.

If you want to be shown on the active users list you must modify your personal profile. The box is on the right hand side below "signature". There are three drop down boxes. Show on active members is the third one.
Or your Chief Healer can edit it for you if you so request.

Ooh, I just noticed some people are now "barmy." I can't wait to be barmy. What a lovely word we Americans can now sprinkle in our conversation and make people look at us as if we were barmy.

Some would say that we are all barmy regardless of our current ranking. I'm personally working toward a second star (come on star!!).

Guys, I just thought I'd let everyone know that the server is suffering from a bad case of the hiccups. Microsoft put out an update that may be to blame, but that's not a certainty yet. We may be up and down till the issue is tracked down and resolved. Sorry for the inconvience.

Yesterday I couldn't reach this side at all because it was suddenly password protected. I was so worried that I had somehow missed something and would never be able to reach this side again.

Here's where we go when these boards are down. If you bookmark it now as Diagon Alley, you can check it out next time these boards are inaccessible. I try to post an announcement there in Inherently Random ("Voledmort Attacks St. Mungo's" topic) anytime I notice trouble. If you read up a few posts, you'll see what was going on.

Hi there everyone!

Just one quick little announcement to make:
We've had our first member problem. This was one of those new members that pops in to post a "friendly" little porn link. I just found it and deleted the topic. In addition this individual has had their membership locked.

It all goes to prove that Moody wasn't too far off the mark:

Constant Vigilance!!!!!
If only we could arrange for a howler-- or a Ton Tongue Toffee...

Needless to say, if you find a similar problem on the site, please let me or one of the modly mediwizards on staff know.+

Now I'm off to look into some Valentine's decorations I've ordered in the village.

Since the above incident, I've become a little more protective of this forum. There have been a couple more registrations that are questionable.
When I find a membership that throws up flags, I follow the advice of Mad-Eye. If he says lock, then I lock. If a person who is truly interested in being a part of this forum is inadvertently locked, I do appologise in advance. Please just e-mail me and explain the situation. My address is siobhan@hpgalleries.org.
