First of all, this the HPG wing is brilliant, so thanks and congratulations.
Secondly, here's an idea for HPG. Say we have a "This Month's Theme" board. We could choose a theme each month or fortnight eg. "The Marauders", "The Hogwarts Founders", "The top 6 DAs (H, R, Hr, G, N, L)", "Magical Creatures" etc. and have lots of different threads for that topic. eg. "The Marauders": Pranks on Snivellus, Love Poetry for Lily Evans by Prongs, S/R shipping, Which Marauder are you most like?, Fan Fiction and Fan Art, Werewolf and Animagi Discussion etc.
What do you all think of this? Is it feasible?

Those are great ideas U No. I think we could do it in the book area with a sticky topic and just ramble on as we usually do. We do already have an area for threads regarding fan-fiction, though. I would like to try to keep our topics in a sort of order.

Um, slightly polarising idea here (well, it's from me; most of my ideas are polarising): since we're not actually affiliated with HPGalleries anymore, should we not change our name, perhaps to St Mungo's? I'm already imagining a site to go with it...

What we were going for was a site that would be easy for former HPGers to find. There are a few out there that may not know where we went. Google is one of our next priorities. But for all intents and purposes, we are St. Mungo's.
My main aim is to have the forum for all our lovely selves. I'm not interested in competing with, say, Leaky Cauldron or the Lexicon simply because they do what they do quite well and everyone goes there anyways. I would like to add a member fan fic library and gallery at some point, but that's down the road a bit.

Siobhan. Please, please, please can you add this smilie to our list:

http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies/character/character0185.gif

I know there's only room for so many smilies.. but the dragon eating the bad wizard was a real favorite.

And I love you, I love you, I love you.

Yay! Thanks!

Are there any other specific smilies you are looking for? I'm happy to lend a hand wasting some time browsing smilie sites. I remember enjoying a broom-flying smilie and a sword-fighting set of smilies, but the dragon smilie was definitely the one I missed most.

Is there any way to make an edit not affect the timestamp on a post? (This coming from the editing queen ) Whenever anyone edits a post, the time of the edit pushes that poster's name back onto the index page, where it looks as if a new post has been made at a new time. This can be very confusing when you go looking for a new post that doesn't exist, because someone (rightfully) has merely corrected their typos. Try editing an old post in an old topic and you'll see what I mean.

As far as I know it is not possible to do so. It has to do with the way the forum itself works and tracks posts. I will check to be certain, but it doesn't sound like it would work.

So we're doing it, then? Should I start a thread in the Common Room?

Sound fine to me. Just hit the "new topic" link in the centre (above the topic listing) and lead on. Monthly Mania?

Thanks, diri. I've had that Paul Simon song "Call Me Al" in my head for a day now. Why is that the only thing that Chevy Chase has done in his career that could get stuck in my head?
I think I shall try to dislodge it...
*thinks of SNL into sketches-- things breaking-- land sharks-- Caddyshack*
Nope, no good. It's still stuck.

HA! I think I've done it! I remembered the movie Foul Play which ends up with a performance of "The Mikado". Now I've got Gilbert and Sullivan on the brain!!!!

Everything is a source of fun
Nobody's safe, for we care for none
Life is a joke that's just begun
Three little maids from school

Three little maids who, all unwary
Come from a ladies' seminary
Freed from its genius tutelary
Three little maids from school,
Three little maids from school!

I've got a suggestion...
Can we have a birthday notice at the bottom of the page?

The birthdays are at the bottom of the main forum page. If it installed correctly we should be seeing everyone's birthday as listed in their profile-- no age, though.

I love the relatively slow pace of St. Mungo's (I know it will pick up in about a month), so I wonder if a slight change in the posting classifications might not be fun. It didn't take long to move from "addled" to "barmy" but looking at other poster's numbers, I think I'm going to be barmy for a long while. Would it be really hard to make the categories smaller? I know this is a small thing, but it is fun--much like the constantly changing color themes and seasonal themes. Thanks for all you do, Siobhan, to make this a good place for me.

)The ranking configurations of this board are few. I have only 6 jumps to work with. Because of this the jumps have to be relatively even (without becoming too regular). I know it takes a while to get to each jump, but if I make the jumps closer together, AMC will stall out (though she IS a moderator now...). I'll give it some thought and look over the rankings and member list and get back to you on this.

If you only have 6 possible jumps, it might not be a good idea to change it since over time it wouldn't mean anything anymore. I never know what constraints the various programs have. It would make more sense to be able to add new ones as the community ages. But I understand.
